Every four years the Illinois State Society (ISS) hosts its Inaugural Gala in honor of the President-Elect and Vice-President Elect. The 2013 celebration will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at the Marriott Renaissance Hotel, 999 9th Street, Washington, DC.
Once again we will be highlighting our great state, and you will be able to do it all!! Everywhere you go, you will find the sights, sounds, and foods of Illinois. Eight different musical groups, including groups from Chicago, will provide continuous entertainment throughout the evening.
Each ticket includes multiple open bars, heavy hors d’oeuvres and buffet stations, continuous live music and dancing from 8:30 PM until 1:30 AM.
Start the evening with a Toast to the First Lady, and entertainment by the Academic Village People. Travel down Interstate 80, and into the State Fair where you can smell the popcorn and cotton candy. Ahead of you is the Country Saloon where you can dance to the music of Southern Winds and grab a corn dog from the vendor on your way into the room. With a quick turn to the right you will begin your trip around Route 66, with stops along the way for Uno’s pizza, peanuts, soft pretzels and of course diner desserts. And you have to stop for a rootbeer float at the Heartland Diner, while you dance to the oldies; or, to commemorate the evening, have your photo taken by Reflections Photography. Once you have sampled everything on Route 66, “travel” again on Interstate 80 to reach the Hall of Heroes, or meet your friends in the City of Chicago Ballroom, under the clock at Marshall Field’s and dance to the terrific sounds of the Radio King Orchestra. RKO features Big Band music and the famous “PinUp Girls”. Later in the evening, join the Blues Brothers sanctioned band – Sweet Home Chicago, with the “Jake and Elwood Revue”. Get ready for some FUN!
Continue down through Governors’ Hall (stopping for some good-home Italian foods) and enter the Motown/Blues Ballroom, where you can dance to the sounds of Chicago’s own Special 20s and Midnight Movers while enjoying food and drink in our Retro Lounge. Make sure you write a note on our full-sized wall card to our troops overseas in the Armed Forces Hall as you exit the Lounge and stop in The University Ballroom to see the memorabilia from the many Illinois universities and colleges, along with our professional sports teams, while you dance or listen to rock ‘n’ roll with Gonzo’s Nose, and Back-to-Zero. And whatever you do, don’t miss Mag Mile with its “magnificent view” or State Street with its desserts!!
A wonderful evening is awaiting you!
